BookCoverAI is a web generator that turns a book title, author name, genre and style preset into an ebook front cover, with separate paths for print wraps, audiobook squares and 3D mockups. Work is paid for with credit packs rather than a subscription.

| Fact | Value |
| --- | --- |
| Website | https://bookcoverai.xyz/ |
| Price | from $3.99/credit pack |
| Free trial | Partly |

Registration gift credits only, with a watermark on free results; 1 credit per Draft generation, 3 per Best Quality, 30 for a print-ready export. No card is needed, and the grant is one-off rather than a standing monthly allowance.

## What it costs to start

**Free tier** · Partly — New accounts get gift credits and can preview designs for nothing, but every free result carries a watermark and the credits are a one-off grant.

> New users receive free credits to get started. Kindle eBook covers cost just 1 credit per generation. Free results carry a watermark, so you can check the design before you pay.

**Self-serve signup** · Yes — All three credit packs are priced on the pricing page with a buy button, so a buyer never has to reach sales to start or to pay.

> Credit packs start at $3.99.

**Card to start** · No — The homepage promises the starting credits without payment details, and the generator form can be reached before any purchase is made.

**Cancel any time** · Yes — There is nothing to cancel because nothing recurs, and unused credits can be refunded in full within fourteen days of purchase.

> You may request a full refund of a credit package purchase if all of the following are true: You request the refund within 14 days of purchase. None of the credits from that purchase have been used.

## What it works with

**Public API** · No — No API, SDK or developer documentation appears on the site or in its sitemap, and the acceptable use policy treats automated access as abuse.

> share accounts, sell access, or use automation to abuse credits, trials, or referral systems.
> — https://bookcoverai.xyz/acceptable-use · Section 2, What You Must Not Do

**MCP server** · No — Nothing on the site offers an MCP server or connector an assistant could call; the product is described only as a website tool for people.

> We provide an artificial intelligence-powered tool that allows users to generate book cover images and related assets based on user-provided text prompts and inputs (the "Service").
> — https://bookcoverai.xyz/terms · Section 2, Description of Service

## What it does on its own

**Acts on its own** · No — Each cover comes from a form the author fills in, and the vendor's own four-step flow puts a human review before any download, so nothing runs unattended.

> Preview the generated artwork and verify it matches your expectation.
> — https://bookcoverai.xyz/ · How Our Book Cover Generator Works, Review step

**No code needed** · Yes — The whole product is a form with genre and style presets, and the vendor states outright that design skill is not required to get a usable cover.

> No design skills are needed to get a professional result.

## What happens to your data

**No training on your data** · Partly — The vendor says it does not hand prompts or outputs to AI providers for public model training, but the protection depends on provider settings and no user-facing switch is offered.

> We do not sell your personal data or intentionally provide your prompts, uploads, or outputs to third-party AI providers for the purpose of training public models.
> — https://bookcoverai.xyz/privacy · Third-Party Processors, AI and Image Generation

**Retention you control** · Partly — Deletion happens on request rather than on a schedule you set: the policy states no retention period and the product exposes no history purge control.

> We retain personal information only for as long as necessary to provide the Service, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce agreements.
> — https://bookcoverai.xyz/privacy · Data Retention

**Self-hosted** · No — The service is hosted only by the vendor, which keeps ownership of the software and forbids extracting or reverse engineering any part of it.

> We retain ownership of our software, templates, interfaces, branding, and other Service IP. You may not copy, reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract source code or underlying systems except where the law expressly permits it.
> — https://bookcoverai.xyz/terms · Section 4, Platform and Service IP

**Open source** · No — No repository or license is published, and the terms reserve the software as the vendor's property while barring decompilation of it.

> We retain ownership of our software, templates, interfaces, branding, and other Service IP.
> — https://bookcoverai.xyz/terms · Section 4, Platform and Service IP

**Take your data out** · Partly — Finished covers download as files you may publish with, but there is no account-wide export and unpaid downloads leave with a watermark on them.

> We do not claim ownership of your inputs or generated outputs. Subject to these Terms and any applicable third-party rights, you may use outputs you lawfully generate and download for your own book publishing, listings, and promotional materials.
> — https://bookcoverai.xyz/terms · Section 4, Your Generated Content

## Whether a company can buy it

**Security audits** · No — No SOC 2 report, ISO 27001 certificate or DPA appears anywhere on the site; the security section claims standard measures and names no audit.

> We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your personal information. However, no method of transmission over the Internet is 100% secure.
> — https://bookcoverai.xyz/privacy · Data Security

**Single sign-on** · No — Sign-up collects an email address and a name, and no identity provider, SAML or directory login is mentioned on any page of the site.

> Account Information: When you register, we collect your email address and name.
> — https://bookcoverai.xyz/privacy · Information We Collect, Personal Information

**Audit log** · No — What the account keeps is a private generation history for the author, not an administrative record of who did what inside a team.

> you grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, process, reproduce, display, and transmit your inputs and generated outputs only as needed to operate, improve, and support the Service, including storing private generation history.
> — https://bookcoverai.xyz/terms · Section 4, Your Generated Content

**Uptime promise** · No — The terms disclaim uptime outright and cap total liability at what you paid in the past year, so no availability commitment exists.

> We do not promise uninterrupted operation, perfect security, or that every generated result will match your expectations.
> — https://bookcoverai.xyz/terms · Section 9, Disclaimers

## Which models it runs on

**Its own model** · No — The vendor does not train or serve the image model itself: its privacy policy states that generation runs on outside AI providers it buys in.

> We use third-party AI and machine learning providers to process your inputs and generate content.
> — https://bookcoverai.xyz/privacy · Third-Party Processors, AI and Image Generation

**You pick the model** · No — A buyer picks Draft or Best Quality and nothing else; the underlying model is chosen by the vendor and is never named on any page of the site.

> We use third-party AI and machine learning providers to process your inputs and generate content.
> — https://bookcoverai.xyz/privacy · Third-Party Processors, AI and Image Generation

## What BookCoverAI makes, and what it leaves out

The product is a single web form. An author types a title, an optional subtitle, an author name and a design prompt of up to 10,000 characters, picks a genre and a style preset, optionally attaches a reference image, chooses Draft or Best Quality, and gets an ebook front cover at [1600 × 2560](https://bookcoverai.xyz/). The genre presets cover [romance, fantasy, cookbook, children's books, comics, sci-fi, poetry, mystery, and business books](https://bookcoverai.xyz/pricing).

The site is unusually clear that one image is not every cover file a book needs. The front cover made on the homepage is not a paperback: "Print is not a resized ebook. A paperback or hardcover needs the front, spine, and back in one layout, sized to the trim, page count, and paper." Separate tools handle the [print wrap](https://bookcoverai.xyz/ebook-cover-to-paperback-cover-converter), the [2400 × 2400 audiobook square](https://bookcoverai.xyz/audiobook-cover-generator), the [series set](https://bookcoverai.xyz/series-cover-generator), a [3D mockup](https://bookcoverai.xyz/3d-book-mockup-generator), a [KDP cover size calculator](https://bookcoverai.xyz/kdp-cover-size-calculator) and an [ISBN barcode](https://bookcoverai.xyz/isbn-barcode-generator).

The generation itself is not the vendor's own: prompts go to "third-party AI and machine learning providers", which the [privacy policy](https://bookcoverai.xyz/privacy) states but never names.

## Credits price every action, and packs start at $3.99

There is no subscription. Three one-time packs are published: [Starter at $3.99 for 40 credits, Author at $9.99 for 120, Studio at $24.99 for 350](https://bookcoverai.xyz/pricing), with the two larger packs advertised as "Save 17% vs Starter" and "Save 37% (Best Value)".

The credit costs are published too, which is rarer than it should be. A Draft generation is 1 credit, a Best Quality generation is 3, and a print-ready paperback or hardcover export is [30 credits](https://bookcoverai.xyz/refund-policy). Ebook front-cover downloads carry no extra charge beyond generation, and failed tasks are not billed. That makes the Starter pack one print export plus a handful of drafts, exactly as its own card says: "1 Print-Ready Cover Download (30 credits)".

Two statements about expiry do not agree. The pricing cards list "Credits Never Expire" on the Author and Studio packs, while the refund policy says "Some credit packages may expire. If a package has an expiration period, it is shown at purchase time or in your account." The refund policy also warns that in-product prices win over the published ones: "Exact costs shown in the product at the time of the action control."

Refunds are narrow but stated. A pack is fully refundable for 14 days if none of its credits have been touched; after that, cash goes back only for billing errors, and a technically defective file earns a credit restore rather than money. Creative dissatisfaction and rejection by Amazon KDP are both excluded.

## The free route is a watermarked credit grant

New accounts receive gift credits and the homepage promises no payment details are needed to start. The [FAQ](https://bookcoverai.xyz/pricing) sets the limit: "Free results carry a watermark, so you can check the design before you pay. Paid downloads have no watermark."

So the free path is a preview, not a plan. It is enough to judge whether the generator understands a genre, and not enough to publish. Registration gift credits are also explicitly outside the refund rules, which describe them as "not eligible for cash refunds".

## No operating company is named on any page

The [about page](https://bookcoverai.xyz/about) is a short narrative about indie publishing and names no company, founder, location or founding year. The contact page offers a form and the footer an address at support@bookcoverai.xyz. The [terms](https://bookcoverai.xyz/terms) decline to name a jurisdiction as well: "These Terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which our company is established."

The six homepage testimonials use first names, roles such as "Indie Author", and portrait images loaded from randomuser.me, a stock avatar generator. Treat them as decoration rather than references.

The terms are careful about the publishing platforms the marketing leans on: "BookCoverAI is an independent service and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Amazon, Kindle Direct Publishing, or any other publishing platform." It also declines to guarantee acceptance: "We do not guarantee approval, acceptance, or successful publication by Amazon KDP, IngramSpark, Blurb, or any other third party."

## Data handling is prose, with no audit report behind it

The privacy policy is specific where it counts and silent where a company buyer would look. Prompts and uploads are processed by outside AI providers, and the vendor states it does not intentionally pass them on for public model training, using "provider settings intended to limit model-training or model-improvement use" where those exist. Microsoft Clarity records masked sessions and Sentry collects errors, both with stated exclusions for form contents and prompts.

Output rights are clear: the vendor claims no ownership of inputs or outputs, downloads may be used for publishing, listings and promotion, and the one carve-out is resale, "You may not resell or redistribute an output as a standalone stock asset or template."

What is absent: no SOC 2 or ISO 27001 report, no DPA, no subprocessor list naming the AI, hosting or payment providers, no retention period in days, no region choice, and no single sign-on. Deletion is available by request under the [Your Rights](https://bookcoverai.xyz/privacy) section rather than as a setting.

## Where it fits, and where it runs out

It fits an author with one book, a small budget and no design software, who wants several cover directions the same day and can live with picking from what the model returns. At $3.99 for a first cover and $24.99 for a working year of generations, the price sits below a single freelance cover, which the homepage contrasts with "$300 and a week of back-and-forth".

It runs out for anyone needing volume or governance. There is no API, no MCP server and no webhook, so a publisher doing fifty titles clicks fifty times. There are no seats, no roles and no admin log, so a team shares one login against an acceptable use policy that forbids it. And the vendor says plainly that output quality varies: "AI-generated covers may contain artifacts or text-rendering issues. You should review the output before commercial use."
