AI Manga Translator is a web tool and Chrome extension that detects text in manga/comic images (OCR + text detection), translates it, and re-renders it into the original speech bubbles, keeping the art intact. The vendor's own FAQ credits the open-source project manga-image-translator (github.com/zyddnys/manga-image-translator) as the technical base and says the team modified and built on it; that repo has 10,369 GitHub stars, is GPL-3.0 licensed, and was last pushed to on 2026-07-20 — an actively maintained project, not an abandoned one. The Chrome extension works directly on manga sites including MangaDex, Manga Plus by Shueisha, and Pixiv Comic.

The vendor's own pages disagree on which models power translation. The pricing page footer lists 'GPT-4o, Papago, Google Translate.' The site-wide FAQ block (shown on the homepage) says translations use 'DeepL,' calling it 'much better than... Google Translate.' The dedicated FAQ page says the opposite: it uses 'GPT and Gemini' and that 'all languages supported by Google' are covered, with no mention of DeepL. None of these are dated or reconciled anywhere on the site.

Verified on the /price page (2026-08-30): Weekly plan, 1,000 + 100 bonus translations, listed at $16 struck through to $8 ($0.008/translation). Monthly, 4,000 + 400 bonus, $50 struck to $30 ($0.007/translation). Annual, 50,000 + 5,000 bonus, $576 struck to $288 (~$0.005/translation). A free tier exists but the two FAQ entries disagree on its size (3/week vs. 10 for new signups), and the translator UI itself shows 'Free Times: 0' before login. A high-volume API is available for studios with a stated $100 minimum order, arranged by email. Payment runs through Stripe, PayPal, or Lemon Squeezy.

Both the homepage and pricing page display a countdown ('0 Days... From now until Black Friday, place an order and get 30% extra translation credits') — fetched on 2026-08-30, more than three months before any Black Friday. Every listed price is also shown with a strikethrough 'original' price next to a lower 'sale' price. This is a permanent discount framed as a limited-time event, not a one-off promotion.

This is a one-person operation: the Chrome Web Store lists the developer contact as [email protected], the extension's Twitter handle is @sagasu001, and the same account ('saga su') personally replies to every Chrome Web Store and Trustpilot review. Trustpilot lists a Guangzhou, China business address (self-reported, not independently verified) and gives the company 4.1/5 from 5 reviews, all dated mid-2024 with none in the last 12 months. The Chrome extension has a separate 3.3/5 from 39 ratings (2,000 users) as of 2026-08-30; the negative reviews call it low quality ('dogshit product... waste of money') or non-functional ('doesn't work'), while positive ones praise speed and layout preservation. No press coverage or independent review site beyond these two consumer-review platforms was found.
