Contract review that ends in Word redlines, not a report
LegalOn reviews an uploaded agreement against a playbook and applies the result as tracked changes in the document itself. The platform page describes the loop plainly: "Simply upload a contract and LegalOn will review it against your playbook, with redlines applied directly in Word. You review the flags, accept or adjust the suggested language, and send the contract back to the business." The Word add-in carries review, redlining, drafting and question answering, including a one-click AI Revise built on Word's native track changes.
The second half of the product is repository work. Vault stores signed agreements, extracts key fields and auto-identifies renewal and expiration dates, with side-by-side tabular views that can be edited inline and exported to Excel. Matter Management, the newest layer, takes intake from email, custom forms, Slack and Microsoft Teams and tracks each request to completion.
135+ playbooks are the day-one substitute for your own standards
The review quality rests on playbooks rather than on general prompting. LegalOn ships 135+ attorney-built playbooks for NDAs, MSAs, DPAs and other common agreements, described on the homepage as covering "10,000 legal issues and dozens of countries, maintained as the law changes". International playbooks are sold as an add-on covering commercial contracts across 23 countries.
Custom playbooks are written without code. The pricing FAQ states: "Build custom playbooks in plain English that mirror your internal standards, so LegalOn reviews every contract against your positions." Custom playbooks are not in the entry plan: My Playbooks and the Playbook Agent appear only from the Contracting Suite upward, so a Core Review buyer reviews against LegalOn's library and not their own positions. For teams unwilling to author them, Managed Playbooks are a further add-on built by LegalOn's legal engineers.
Five agents act, and an attorney signs off
The agents page names five: Playbook, Intake, Triage, Translation and Drafting. The Intake Agent collects missing information from requesters before a matter reaches the queue. The Triage Agent "Screens low-risk agreements against your playbooks" and routes exceptions "for attorney review and approval". The Translation Agent translates a contract into English for review and returns the redlined version in the original language, across 28+ languages per the pricing page add-on list.
The autonomy stops short of signing anything. LegalOn's own framing is that "legal teams setting the guardrails and retaining final judgment and approval", which is a fair description of a product that clears standard paper automatically and escalates the rest.
Pricing is per-seat and quoted, with usage left uncapped
There is no published rate card. The pricing page shows three plans, Core Review for solo attorneys and fractional GCs, Contracting Suite for full-lifecycle contracting, and Productivity Suite adding matter management and the intake and triage agents, and every one of them ends in a demo request. The FAQ confirms the quote is built after a conversation about team size.
What the plans do promise is that the meter is not running. All three include "Unlimited AI contract review and redlining" and the page's own summary of what every plan includes says "Review, redline, store, search, and use LegalOn Assistant without usage limits". The terms agree: "Fees are based on Services purchased and not actual usage". The commitment side is less comfortable. Subscriptions auto-renew for up to a year unless notice is given 30 days before renewal, payment obligations are non-cancelable, fees are non-refundable, and purchased quantities cannot be reduced mid-term.
Security is certified, and the certificate list contradicts itself
The security page names SOC 2 Type II, ISO/IEC 27001:2022 and ISO/IEC 27017:2015, plus GDPR and CCPA compliance, annual penetration testing, segregated environments per customer account, and encryption at rest and in transit. On generative AI it is specific: its Azure OpenAI arrangement includes "protections that ensure no customer data is used to train, retrain, or improve their models, and that no customer data is stored for any period of time, even for abuse monitoring and debugging purposes."
The standards do not match across the site. The security page says ISO 27017, the cloud-controls extension, while the pricing page says "ISO 27001, ISO 27011, and SOC 2 Type II certified" and the integrations page prints "ISO 27007". ISO 27011 is the telecoms sector standard and 27007 is an auditing guideline, so two of those three pages are wrong about which certificate exists. No uptime commitment is published: the terms mention an SLA only to say beta features are not covered by one, and no percentage appears anywhere. There is a Trust Center for reports.
Two data terms matter for regulated buyers. Customers may export content during the term, after which LegalOn "may delete or disable access to Customer Content after 30 days". And the terms prohibit submitting PHI, PII, payment card data or ITAR-controlled data without a written addendum, which is a real constraint for anyone intending to review healthcare or payments paper.
A documented REST API, and the connector list has a gap
LegalOn publishes a developer portal for a RESTful API with three documented surfaces: contracts and files, matters, and administration of users, groups, workspaces and departments. Authentication is OAuth 2.0 client credentials against region-specific hosts, with credentials created in the account's API Integration page and an expiry the customer chooses, from 7 days to none. Responses carry rate-limit headers, though the ceiling itself is not published. Administrative endpoints require an IT Administrator role, and the integrations page states that "API access is scoped to the same workspaces a user already works in".
Native integrations are Microsoft Word, Slack, SharePoint, Microsoft Teams and Google Drive. Box is on the same grid marked coming soon. No MCP server is mentioned on the integrations page, the agents page, the developer portal or the terms, so an AI assistant reaching LegalOn would do it through the REST API.
Where it fits, and where it does not
The fit is an in-house team that lives in Word and wants consistent review against known positions, from a single GC on Core Review to a department on the Productivity Suite. LegalOn Technologies is a Tokyo and San Francisco company that reports $200 million in total funding after a $50 million Series E led by Growth Equity at Goldman Sachs Alternatives in July 2025, and claims 9,000+ customers.
It fits badly in three cases. A team that wants to try software before talking to anyone cannot: there is no free plan, no trial and no self-serve signup. A buyer who needs custom playbooks or SSO should price the Contracting Suite, not Core Review, because both sit above the entry plan. And a team whose contracts carry protected health information or payment card data needs a written addendum first, because the standard terms forbid submitting that data at all. LegalOn also states on its own disclaimer that it "is neither a law firm nor an attorney, and is not a substitute" for one.

What the price counts
Priced around team size and the capabilities chosen, quoted per customer rather than published; usage itself is not metered, and the terms confirm fees follow what was purchased rather than consumption.

A public REST API is documented on a developer portal covering contracts and files, matters, and user or workspace administration, with OAuth 2.0 client credentials and published rate-limit headers.

Acts on its own
The Triage Agent can clear low-risk agreements against a playbook on its own, but the vendor positions outputs as review-ready with attorneys keeping final approval and exceptions routed to a person.
Screens low-risk agreements against your playbooks—so routine deals move forward faster and exceptions are routed for attorney review and approval.

Limits on what it may do
Customers set the guardrails the agents work inside, and workspace or folder permissions with Admin, Editor, Contributor and Viewer roles limit which documents an agent or user can reach.
Every output is transparent and review-ready, with legal teams setting the guardrails and retaining final judgment and approval.
