What it actually does

You pick a source and target language, choose one of three recognition/translation models ("Manga" for general JP/CN/KR pages, "Ultra" for higher-fidelity but slower results, and "EagleEye", labelled early-access), pick a lettering font style from a set of 14 named options (Comic, Freedom, Classic, etc., each with a stated best-use case), and upload a JPG/PNG/WEBP/PDF/ZIP up to 15MB per page. The tool OCRs the dialogue, translates it, removes the original text, and re-inserts the translation in the chosen font. A separate "Studio" editor lets you open a translated page and manually correct text, move text boxes, and adjust font, size, colour, stroke, alignment and spacing before exporting — useful because automatic OCR/typesetting on stylised sound effects and warped lettering is exactly where these pipelines fail. There's also a documented REST API (upload → submit → poll batch status → download) for anyone who wants to script it (https://www.mangatranslate.com/api-examples/).

Pricing: unusually transparent, and cheap per page at volume

Full tier ladder is embedded directly in the page's own pricing config and matches what renders: a free daily allowance (5 credits/day with no account, shared per IP; 5 more/day for registered users who check in), then three paid tracks. Monthly subscription: Basic at $8/month for 1,800 translations plus a 10% purchase bonus (1,980 credits total); Pro at $30/month for 7,000 + 700 bonus (7,700 credits). The annual "Ultra" plan is $288/year ($24/month equivalent, discounted from a $576 list) for 84,000 + 8,400 bonus (92,400 credits/year) — the vendor's own math puts this at roughly $0.0031/page, the cheapest per-page rate on the site. One-time credit packs (no expiry noted differently — credits expire 3,600 days, i.e. effectively non-expiring) run $10/$20/$50 for roughly 2,200/4,620/12,100 credits respectively. API access starts at a $100 minimum order at $0.005 per request (down from a $0.01 list rate). One credit buys one page on the "Manga" model; "Ultra" costs 2 credits/page. All of this was read directly out of the vendor's own pricing JSON on the live page, not the rendered cards, which only show one currency at a time (https://www.mangatranslate.com/).

What it doesn't tell you about its own engine

The subscription benefits copy states the plans include "Multiple translation models (GPT-4o, Papago, Google Translate)" — that's the only place the product says anything about what's actually doing the translation. It doesn't say which of its three named models (Manga/Ultra/EagleEye) maps to which of those three engines, or whether OCR and typesetting are in-house versus using one of those same providers' vision capabilities. Treat "GPT-4o, Papago, Google Translate" as a vendor claim about the stack, not a verified architecture — we could not independently confirm it.

Company, support and community — a small, young operation

The only place the operating company is named anywhere on the site is a Schema.org Organization block in the page head, which identifies it as Ficory LLC (https://www.mangatranslate.com/). There is no /about, /docs, /status or /changelog page (all return 404); support is a phone number, an email alias, and community channels. The GitHub link in the site footer (github.com/JiXiangTools/manga_translator) 404s — the JiXiangTools GitHub org's actual public repos are unrelated projects, so there is no open-source component to evaluate, despite the link's presence implying one. The Discord server (discord.gg/AAQup56CD3) has about 550 members and 55 online at time of writing, confirmed via Discord's own invite API, and there's a separate Telegram channel. We could not find the product on Trustpilot or Product Hunt, and could not reach X/Twitter to check the linked account's activity — so independent reviews or third-party validation of translation quality are not established either way.

Claims we haven't verified

The homepage states "100,000,000+ Translations Completed", "100+ Supported Languages", and "99% Translation Accuracy" (https://www.mangatranslate.com/). These are vendor-stated figures with no methodology or source given for the accuracy number in particular, and we have no independent way to check them. Present them as claims, not facts, if repeating them at all.

Editor's read

Check whether the credit model matches your page volume: the listed plans are credit packs and subscriptions, so per-page cost will vary by model choice and usage. If you plan to automate, verify that API Key access covers the batch upload and task-status workflow you need.
