A finance suite with AI across invoice work and payments
Tipalti presents one connected finance suite rather than a standalone chat assistant. Its homepage says it covers accounts payable, mass payments, procurement, expenses, and treasury. The Accounts Payable product combines supplier onboarding, invoice processing, purchase order matching, reconciliation, payments, and ERP synchronization. The separate Mass Payments offer addresses distributed networks such as creators, artists, sellers, and clinical trial participants. This is finance operations software with payment and compliance functions alongside the AI features, so it is a fit for an organization that needs those operating systems rather than only an assistant that answers finance questions.
The company describes its target market as midmarket businesses running global finance operations. That positioning matches the product’s emphasis on multiple legal entities, currencies, payment methods, tax validation, and supplier portals. The public site says payments can reach more than 200 countries and territories, and it lists an implementation path that begins with a sales conversation. A smaller company can use the $99 Accounts Payable entry point, but the operating model and published examples remain centered on organizations with a finance team, suppliers, approval flows, and accounting systems to connect.
Agents automate tasks but finance retains approval control
Tipalti separates its AI features into an AI Assistant, specialized task agents, and an AP Agent. The AI page says task agents capture invoice data, recommend coding and approvers, match purchase orders, generate reports from natural language, scan tax forms, and guide ERP synchronization. AP Agent coordinates connected invoice work from intake through review and approval. This is useful automation of a finance workflow, not a promise that an agent can independently release cash.
The vendor repeatedly keeps people inside the approval loop. Its AI FAQ says authorized users can review recommendations, correct suggested values, and follow configured approval thresholds. It also says AI outputs can be inaccurate or incomplete and important results require review. The public terms place the same responsibility on customers by requiring review and validation of AI generated outputs before reliance. That combination makes the product most relevant where repetitive entry, matching, and routing need to shrink, while accounting policy and payment approval remain human responsibilities.
Published starting prices include variable transaction charges
Tipalti publishes a starting price, but it is not a complete bill. The pricing page lists Accounts Payable from $99 per month and Mass Payments from $249 per month, each with unlimited users and core automation. Accounts Payable also has transaction pricing per invoice and payment. Mass Payments has transaction pricing for payments. The pricing FAQ says the platform fee is layered with transaction fees and that payment volume, entities, modules, payment methods, and currencies affect cost.
Procurement, Expenses, and Treasury are listed as add on modules. Standard implementation is included for common AP and payment workflows, but multi ERP environments, custom integrations, and advanced compliance requirements may need professional services. The starting price therefore describes the initial software subscription, not an all inclusive operational cost. Both product cards instruct prospective customers to request a custom quote from sales. The page also explicitly says there is no free Accounts Payable tier, so there is no standing free plan to test indefinitely.
MCP links finance data to enterprise AI under existing roles
Tipalti MCP connects invoice, supplier, and payment information to a supported enterprise AI workspace. The first named external connection is Claude Enterprise, with more enterprise AI tools planned. Its purpose is data lookup and analysis. The page describes using permitted Tipalti records together with information from other connected systems to create reports, dashboards, AI artifacts, and custom agents in the customer’s own setup.
The connection carries Tipalti access restrictions into the AI tool. Each request is checked against the user’s existing roles and permissions, while administrators define the approved scope of data. At launch MCP is read only. Connected AI tools cannot approve invoices, send payments, or change Tipalti records. This makes MCP an analysis and context surface rather than a payment execution channel. It requires a supported enterprise AI tool, an administrator approved connection, and a Tipalti account with appropriate permissions.
Security materials name annual SOC 2 reviews and cloud controls
Tipalti describes a multitenant cloud platform and states that it handles hosting and upgrades. Its cloud security page names SOC 1 and SOC 2 Type II certification, HTTPS transmission, AES encryption for personally identifiable information, multi factor authentication, IP restrictions, audits, and penetration testing. It also states that audit trails record payer and payee activity, while role settings can limit what users view or do.
The customer DPA adds that personal data is encrypted in transit and at rest, that risk assessments and qualified third party penetration testing occur at least annually, and that Tipalti undergoes an annual SOC 2 Type II audit. The report is available to customers on request subject to confidentiality restrictions. The DPA identifies AWS production servers and databases in the United States. The privacy policy also names processing locations that include the United States, Canada, Israel, the United Kingdom, and the European Union. It does not publish a customer selectable storage region.
Terms set automatic renewal, notice, and data export limits
The services agreement says the initial term is specified in the Order Form and renews automatically. If the renewal length is not specified, it defaults to twelve months. Ending at term end requires written notice at least thirty days in advance. Fees already paid are nonrefundable, and a customer owes fees for the balance of the current term after termination. Payment instructions cannot be canceled once confirmed, although Tipalti may make reasonable efforts to stop or recover a transaction.
The exit route is useful but time limited. During the contract term, a customer may download transactional data from the service and request reasonable assistance at its own expense. The DPA says a customer may request deletion of personal data and that data is deleted or anonymized after termination, subject to contractual and legal retention requirements. For AI specifically, Tipalti says it does not use customer data to train third party AI models or improve AI features for other customers. The same AI FAQ notes that third party providers can process data to produce requested outputs under contractual and technical controls.
