Athina bundles three things that competitors often split across tools: prompt management/testing across models, an evaluation layer (50+ preset evals sourced from providers like Ragas and Guardrails, plus custom LLM-as-judge or Python-function evals and human annotation workflows), and production monitoring (tracing with replay, continuous online evals on live logs, cost/latency tracking segmented by prompt, model, topic or customer). It also ships a GraphQL API for pulling traces and eval results programmatically. The pitch is one system product managers can use no-code alongside engineers working via API/SDK.

The Starter plan is genuinely free with a stated limit (10,000 logs/month) and is not gated behind a sales call — that's unusual and worth crediting. Above that, Pro is listed as 'Let's talk' and Enterprise as 'Custom pricing'; neither publishes a number or a usage-based rate card, so you can't estimate cost at, say, 500k logs/month without a sales conversation. SOC-2 Type 2 compliance and self-hosted/VPC deployment are marketed as Enterprise-tier features.

athina-evals, the public Python evaluation library (301 GitHub stars, MIT-style open availability implied by being public), has had no commits or PyPI release since May–June 2025 — over a year as of this writing — despite the company's blog posting as recently as January 2026. Separately, the repo carries no LICENSE file at all and no license classifier on PyPI, so its actual reuse terms are undefined rather than merely permissive. If you're evaluating Athina for its open evaluation tooling specifically (rather than the hosted product), check current behavior yourself rather than assuming active maintenance or a clear license.
