What Swarms actually is: a framework first, a platform around it
The core of Swarms is an open-source multi-agent orchestration library, available in Python (pip install swarms) and in Rust (swarms-rs on crates.io), licensed Apache-2.0. On top of that sits Swarms Cloud, a hosted API (api.swarms.world) that runs the same agent/swarm primitives without self-hosting; a Marketplace (swarms.world) for buying and selling agents, prompts, tools and MCP servers; and AgentHQ, a new 'pixel-art agent office' product for hiring Claude and Codex agents, which is in pre-beta with a waitlist rather than a shipped product (https://www.swarms.ai/agenthq). A buyer evaluating 'Swarms' is really choosing among four different things with different maturity levels, and only the framework and the Cloud API have usage history behind them.
The open-source framework is actively maintained, not a side project
kyegomez/swarms on GitHub carries 7,226 stars and 1,031 forks, is Apache-2.0 licensed, and is not archived (checked via the GitHub API, 2026-10-03). Its most recent push and its most recent PyPI release (16.0.0) both landed on 2026-10-02 — the day before this listing was checked — and the project publishes a public changelog for every version, including a detailed post for v16 'Overclock' covering token accounting, a new DecisionModel, and tool-call performance work (https://www.swarms.ai/blog/swarms-v16-overclock-release). 264 issues are open, which is normal cadence for a project this size rather than a sign of neglect. For buyers worried about picking up an abandoned framework, the evidence points the other way.
Pricing: a real free tier, then a steep jump to Premium
Free costs $0/month: pay-per-use credits, 100 requests/minute, 1,200/day, 200K tokens per agent, and marketplace access. Pro is $19.99/month and adds global availability zones, 'exclusive' multi-agent architectures, accelerated hardware, API telemetry, priority queue access, and premium endpoints (batch processing, reasoning agents, advanced workflows) — these premium endpoints are explicitly unavailable on Free. Premium is $100/month (or $1,020/year) and is where SOC 2 compliance, 2,000 requests/minute, 100,000 requests/day, 2M tokens per agent, 500 agents per batch, and priority region routing live. Enterprise is custom-quoted and adds on-premise/VPC deployment, dedicated infrastructure, and a named solutions engineer. On top of the subscription, every tier pays usage-based token pricing — $6.50 per 1M input tokens and $18.50 per 1M output tokens, unified across every endpoint — plus $0.01 per agent, $0.25 per image, $0.10 per MCP call, $0.04 per Exa search, and $0.15 per web scrape. A 50% off-peak token discount applies automatically between 8 PM and 6 AM Pacific. Source: https://www.swarms.ai/pricing (checked 2026-10-03).
Security and compliance claims the site doesn't back with documents
The homepage states the infrastructure is 'HIPAA compliant and ISO 27001 certified' (https://www.swarms.ai/), and the pricing page lists 'SOC 2 compliance' as a feature unlocked on the Premium tier and 'SOC 2 controls, audit logging' under Enterprise. None of these claims link to a certificate, an auditor's report, or even a dedicated trust/security page — swarms.ai/security returns a 404. That means a buyer who needs HIPAA, ISO 27001 or SOC 2 for their own compliance process has no public document to point to and would need to ask Swarms directly for the underlying attestation before relying on it.
Marketplace and AgentHQ: newer and unverified
The Marketplace lets anyone publish agents, prompts, tools and MCP servers and, per the vendor, keep 90% of each sale (https://www.swarms.ai/) — that revenue split, and the size or quality of the marketplace's catalog, is a vendor claim with no independent figures available. AgentHQ, described as letting someone 'hire' Claude and Codex agents into a visual office and watch their tool calls stream live, is in pre-beta and only open via a waitlist (https://www.swarms.ai/agenthq) — it is not a product you can use today.

Check whether the features you need sit above Free: premium endpoints, accelerated hardware, API telemetry, and priority routing all appear on Pro or Ultra. If SOC 2 compliance or no rate limits matter, verify Ultra or Enterprise before committing.
