What it actually is
Hyperbrowser is cloud browser infrastructure: you connect Playwright, Puppeteer, or Selenium to a hosted Chrome instance over a WebSocket endpoint, and it handles session provisioning, anti-bot evasion, CAPTCHA solving, and proxy routing. On top of that it ships a scraping API (scrape/fetch/search endpoints, credits billed per page), an MCP server, and hosted 'AI Agent' wrappers around Claude Computer Use, OpenAI CUA, Gemini Computer Use, Grok, and its own open-source HyperAgent framework, all billed per step or per token through the same credit system. It is not a no-code automation platform — you write the automation, it runs the browser.
Where it's strong
An independent benchmark published by a competitor (Browserless, which has an obvious incentive to make itself look good) still put Hyperbrowser first on connection/cold-start speed among four providers tested — Browserless, Anchor Browser, and Browserbase — with Anchor Browser several times slower to connect. Hyperbrowser trailed Browserbase slightly on page-creation speed and trailed Browserless on navigation speed, staying under 350ms average on both. For workloads that spin up many short-lived sessions (scraping, QA checks, cron jobs), that connection-time edge is the number that matters most, per Browserless's own methodology. Separately, its open-source HyperAgent repo has 1,541 GitHub stars and was still shipping weekly SDK releases as of August 2026 (node-sdk v0.92.3, Aug 16 2026), so the project reads as actively maintained rather than a launched-and-abandoned OSS wrapper.
Pricing and how credits work
Free plan: 5,000 credits, 1 concurrent browser, 7-day data retention, no credit card required. Startup: $30/month, 30,000 credits included, 25 concurrent browsers, 30-day retention, auto-CAPTCHA solving, basic stealth, residential proxies. Scale: $100/month, 100,000 credits, 100 concurrent browsers, premium residential proxies. Enterprise: custom pricing, 1,000+ concurrent browsers, ultra stealth mode, HIPAA/SOC 2, 180+ day retention — sold via a booked demo, not self-serve. Underlying unit economics: 1 credit = $0.001; browser sessions cost 100 credits/hour ($0.10/hr); scraped pages cost 1 credit each; proxy bandwidth costs 10,000 credits/GB ($10/GB); AI-agent steps cost 20 credits each ($0.02/step) on top of the browser-hour charge. API calls themselves are free. Because a bill is the sum of hours, pages, proxy GB, and any agent-model tokens, it's harder to predict up front than a flat per-seat SaaS price — a trade-off worth budgeting for rather than a hidden cost, since every rate is published.
What you have to build yourself
An independent comparison (Skyvern, a competing vendor) makes a fair point buried in what is otherwise a competitor's sales pitch: Hyperbrowser gives you the browser, not the judgment. There's no visual page interpretation — you still write selectors or task descriptions per site, and those break when a target site's layout changes. The bundled 'AI Agent' options (Claude Computer Use, OpenAI CUA, HyperAgent's page.ai()) add natural-language control on top, but that's an LLM driving your existing session, not a separate no-code product. Teams without engineering capacity for ongoing script maintenance are the ones who end up looking at higher-level automation platforms instead.
Company and backing
Hyperbrowser (Hyperbrowser.ai) is a Y Combinator company, Summer 2021 batch, based in San Francisco, with a YC-listed team size of 4 and two named active founders (Shri Sukhani, ex-Meta engineer, and Akshay Shekhawat). The company's own YC profile states it is 'backed by YC, Accel, SV Angel, and others' — a vendor claim we could not independently confirm against a funding database or press release, so treat the specific investor list as unverified. No funding amount is published anywhere we could find.
Security and compliance
HIPAA and SOC 2 are listed as Enterprise-tier features on the pricing page, implying they are not available (or not certified) below that tier. We could not find a public trust center, security page, or published SOC 2 report/attestation letter — trust.hyperbrowser.ai does not resolve and there is no /security page in the docs. This is a normal state for an early-stage infra startup gating compliance behind a sales conversation, but it means a buyer with compliance requirements needs to verify SOC 2 status directly with sales before committing, not from anything public today.

Check the concurrency and retention ceiling on the tier you plan to buy: Free includes 1 concurrent browser and 7 days of data retention, Startup raises that to 25 and 30 days, and Scale to 100 and 30 days. Enterprise is the only tier with 1000+ concurrent browsers and 180+ day retention.
